A Journey of Self Discovery through Private Counseling

Gloria McAlister, M.Ed., LPCC-S, RTT

“Good therapists are grown, not graduated.” For nearly 30 years Gloria has been studying everything from traditional psychotherapy to meditation, pranayama, restorative yoga, body-centered modalities, and a variety of energy work. She is a Reiki practitioner, Registered Yoga Teacher, and an explorer of spiritual paths. Gloria has also studied with Bessel van der Kolk on the effectiveness of body-centered modalities, including trauma-sensitive yoga, in healing from traumatic stress. She has trained in EMDR types of techniques. Gloria’s path has lead her to all the exciting breakthroughs in neurobiology that give new depth to bringing unity to body, mind, and spirit connections.

Gloria believes “you can’t teach what you don’t know.”  Her personal journey has intermixed with her professional journey and has become her way of life as well as her passion and her life’s work.  In the process of therapy she works in partnership with each individual to help them find their own right answers and directions.

Why pursue counseling?

The everyday stresses of life as well as more acute traumas are not only experienced in your mind but stored in your body and spirit as well. Most of us have tried many things to get unstuck, but have often been frustrated to find that they didn’t take us to where we wanted to go. The problem is that none of this addresses the body, mind, and spirit as a whole.

Through a personalized blend of yoga, breath work, and therapy, you can reconnect, release and unite all parts of yourself. Choosing to do this in an open, supportive way creates potential for transformation. Your journey of self-discovery and insight will blend the power of therapy, meditation, breathing techniques, gentle movement, and yoga postures, among others. The goal is to take these and turn them into practical action steps that support you in living the life you want to be living.

Private Counseling Sessions

Integration of one’s cognitive, emotional, and physical elements allow one to be present in both body and life. None of us will ever do this completely one hundred per cent of the time, but we can learn to do it better and show up for ourselves and be present in our life more often. When we do this, we find ourselves letting go of suffering and opening to peace and joy, becoming who we are meant to be. Private counseling sessions guide you throughout this process.
