Yoga retreat weekend at Camp Asbury

Our annual weekend yoga retreat at Camp Asbury is the first weekend in Oct. We begin on Friday evening and end on Sunday morning at 11:00. We do a variety of uplifting activities including yoga, hiking, chanting and studying philosophy, meditation and the art of relaxation. We have led over 30 retreats at Camp Asbury dating back to the mid 1990s. This is a very affordable restful weekend and the camp prepares delicious meals for us.

Hosted by Mike Curtis & Joe Culley. Joe is an art teacher, tabla player and transcendental tour guide. Mike is an obstructed poet, regretfully retired musician, and balances two yoga studios, but when he is at Camp Asbury he is a tree elf. The weekend is designed around the beauty, the variety and the essence of trees. We’ll have drawing classes, inspirational music, gentle yoga, vegetarian food and tree time. We’ll wake up our senses and rest our defenses.

Questions? Contact Mike Curtis (330)353-3109.

The cost is $175 before Sept. 1, and $185 afterwards.

Kirtan with Jim Gelcer

Room: Yoga Central Main Studio

Jim travels here from Toronto and is a remarkable musician.

Jim Gelcer is an internationally acclaimed musician, composer, and producer. Originally from Cape Town, and based in Toronto, Jim has recorded and performed around the world with artists as diverse as Lee Aaron, The Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band, Reg Schwager, and Dave Young. He is at home in a wide range of genres — from rock, pop, and r&b, to jazz, classical, and world music. One of the few Canadian artists invited to perform at Bhakti Fest, Jim’s debut recording “Bhagavan” was hailed as one of the year’s best by American radio shows In The Spirit and Full Lotus Kirtan. Yoga Chicago magazine called him “the perfect bhakti singer”. His style has been called “welcoming, inviting, and contagious”, and mashes up traditional Sanskrit chants with r&b, jazz, and rock. Jim’s second album, “Bhakti Groove Machine”, was co-produced by Grammy-nominated producer Ben Leinbach (Jai Uttal, Deva Premal, Snatam Kaur). David Newman (aka Durga Das) called it “sweet, soulful, smooth and sublime.”

$15 in advance, $20 at the door and $10 for students.
